The Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church (WCPRES) and the American Red Cross have entered into an agreement to establish a disaster shelter on the WCPRES campus should the need arise.  St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Trinity will be joining us in this project.

In preparation for the establishment of the shelter, the Red Cross will hold a training session for members and friends of WCPRES and St. Paul’s on Saturday, July 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  The training will include instruction in the following:

• REGISTRATION to ensure that clients are properly enrolled;
• FEEDING, including kitchen and food preparation to meet clients’ needs;
• DORMITORY OR SHELTER SETUP to make certain that the sleeping accommodations meet clients’ needs;
• HEALTH SERVICES to meet the clients’ medical needs;
• COMMUNICATIONS to coordinate the sharing of information among the shelter, the Red Cross and community organizations;
• SECURITY to ensure the safety and welfare of both the volunteers and clients.
